Can a general practice doctor or a family practice doctor ever perscribe ambien?

I know of a man who tried to get his insurance to cover visits to a psychologist. The insurance company would not cover him because his previous carrier said that he had a pre-existing mental condition.

Any licensed physician can prescribe Ambien. It’s really up to a doctors personal comfort level prescribing a particular drug. Just an FYI a psychologist can not prescribe any medication. They are PhD’s not MD’s
